Shirley L. Thums, 87, of Medford, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025 at Aspirus Care and Rehab, under the care of Hope Hospice.
A funeral mass for Shirley will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 28, 2025 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, with Father Patrick McConnell officiating. Visitation will take place at Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Friday, November 28, 2025 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at St Ann’s Cemetery.
Shirley was born on November 5, 1938 to Joseph and Celesta (Leischer) Brandner in Chelsea. She attended Chelsea Grade School and Westboro High School. She married Edward Thums on June 9, 1956 at Assumption Catholic Church in Chelsea. She worked various jobs in the Rib Lake area before becoming the Westboro Postmaster. She later worked as the Postmaster in Fifield until her retirement.
Shirley enjoyed traveling in her younger years. Later in life she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and painting pictures and ceramics. She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and the National Association of Retired Postmasters.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Sheryl “Sherry” (Doug) Kenney of Medford; grandchildren, Brett Jones and Tanya (Kenny) Stickney, both of Medford; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Ian and Elli Stickney and Tristan Webb; Siblings, Danny (Diane) Brandner and Marlene Rhyner, both of Medford and Ronald (Betty) Brandner of Richfield. Shirley is further survived by many other family and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Celesta; husband, Edward ; granddaughter, Gwen Jones; siblings, Robert, in infancy, Gail Brandner, Larry Brandner, Janice Brandner, Bruce Brandner, and Boyd “Bud” Brandner.
