Shawn E. Hartl, 43, of Medford, town of Hammel, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
He was born April 25, 1983 in Medford to David and Linda (Lietz) Hartl. He graduated from Medford High School in 2002.
On August 17, 2007, he married Casey Fitzgerald in Medford. They resided in the town of Hammel where they raised their two children.
Shawn worked his entire career as a mechanic. He started at Abbyland, then worked for Bauer’s and Krug’s before starting his own business, Hartl Diesel in Medford. He also helped his dad with his landscaping and plowing business when he was able.
Shawn enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising goats, his dogs, and spending time on their land by the river. He was especially proud of his two children and their accomplishments, and he loved watching them play hockey. Whether cheering from the stands or talking about their games afterward, he took great joy in seeing their dedication, teamwork, and love for the sport.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Casey; children, Ava and Luke; parents, Linda Hartl (Ray Tallman), David (Michelle) Hartl; in-laws, Bob and Sue Fitzgerald; brother, David Jr.; half-siblings, Morgan (Alex) Mabie, Travis Hartl; sister-in-law, Kylie Fitzgerald; grandmother-in-law, Kathleen Gaab, all of Medford; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, July 13 at Hemer-Pickerign Funeral Home in Medford, with Fr. Patrick McConnell officiating.
