Obituary

Richard M. Smith, 68, of Pekin, IL, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Aspirus Hospital in Medford, WI.

Cremation rites have been accorded and services will be held at a later date.

Richard was born on October 2, 1954 in Peoria, IL to Ollie and Mildred (Hahn) Smith. He graduated from Pekin Community High School in 1973. He went on to receive his Associates Degree from Illinois Central College. He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co. as an accounting analyst for 40 years, until his retirement on January 1, 2014. He married Patricia Ann Beamish on October 19, 1974 in Pekin, IL; she survives.

Richard loved fishing and hunting, visiting his cabin on the lake in Phillips, WI.  Richard truly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his children, Karie (James) Thums of Medford, WI and Kevin Smith of Pekin, IL; grandchildren, Wyatt Smith of Urbana, IL and Russell and Annie Thums, both of Medford, WI; sister, Michelle Burns of Pekin, IL.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
