Marvel Thiede Obituary

Marvel Thiede, 95, of Medford, passed away on October 21, 2024 at the Aspirus Care and Rehab center in Medford surrounded by her family and while under the care of Hope Hospice.

Funeral services for Marvel will take place on Monday, November 11, 2024 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Medford at 11:00 AM. Visitation will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Church from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM.  A luncheon will follow the service.

Marvel Thiede was born January 29, 1929 in Little Black, WI to the late Heinrich “Henry” J and Caroline “Carrie” L (Frischmann) Oelke.  She had one brother, the late Glendon “Glen” G Oelke.

Growing up on a dairy farm, Marvel actively supported the rural farming way of life, even representing Taylor County at the Wisconsin State Fair in Milwaukee as the County Dairy Queen.  A 1950 graduate of UW-Stout with a teaching degree in Home Economics, Marvel taught for 22 years in the Medford School District.  She enjoyed challenging her students, teaching them valuable life-long skills.  She was an FHA adviser, and remained active with the 4-H club for over a decade.

On June 2, 1951 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stetsonville, she married Kenneth “Ken” R Thiede, who proceeded her in death September 18, 2009.

While raising her family, Marvel continued to be passionate about cooking, baking, sewing, food preservation, and gardening.  She enjoyed traveling, both domestic and international; always eager to learn about other cultures.  Marvel had the best personality, loved all, and was eager to volunteer in the community and church.

Her most cherished role was that of a loving mother.  Marvel is survived by her seven children, Cynthia (Kaz) Thiede formerly of Lahaina, Hawaii; Dan (Sue) Thiede of Medford; David (Denise) Thiede of Minneapolis; Michelle (Gary) Savage of Maui, Hawaii; Steven (Melissa) Thiede formerly of Minneapolis; Scott (Amy) Thiede of Altoona; and Lisa (Stan) Bair of Davis, CA.  Also survived by 11 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
