Mark Allen Mertens, 67, of Wausau, formerly of Medford, died Thursday, September 18, 2025 at PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Wausau after complications with diabetes.
He was born August 13, 1958 in Marshfield to Henry “Hank” and Patricia (Lauer) Mertens. When Mark was 10 years old, the family moved to Medford and Mark graduated from Medford High School in 1976. He earned an associate's degree in accounting from North Central Technical College and spent most of his career as an accountant. He was currently employed at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau.
On December 26, 2019, Mark married Linda Miller in Medford.
Mark will always be remembered for his love of music. While in high school, he worked as a D.J. at Uncle Milty’s, helping make it a popular hang-out among local youth thanks to his talent. Mark continued to know and love to listen to all kinds of music whether it was on his many road trips with Linda to the “Big Water” of Lake Superior in Ashland, or just relaxing with the radio on.
He will be dearly missed by his wife Linda Mertens of Wausau, and her children, Stephanie Schgier of Philadelphia, PA and Ryan Schgier of Lancaster, PA; his mother, Patricia Mertens of Medford; three sisters, Ann Marie (Duke) Hartmann of Prentice, Kathleen (Ken) Wegerer of Rib Lake, Kimberly Mertens of Eau Claire; nieces and nephews, Maggie (Erik) Westberg, Ben (Jess) Hartmann, Max (Lydia) Hartmann, Sam Hartmann, Travis Wegerer, Teri Wegerer; great-nephews and niece, Dawson, Lela, Reese and Beau; and his best friend through life, Mark Dobeck.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hank.
