Lawrence L. “Uncle Lorne” Erl, 84, of Medford, died Sunday, May 18, 2025 at his home while under the care of Aspirus Hospice.
He was born June 1, 1940 in Medford to Max and Elizabeth “Betty” (Hartman) Erl. He graduated from Medford High School.
Lawrence proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed in Alaska, from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1965. He was a member of the Medford VFW Post 5729.
After his military service, Lawrence went back to school to earn a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in education from UWEC. He taught math and computers at Colby High School for 25 years until his retirement. He was the very first computer teacher in the state!
A huge sports fan, he loved watching all sports, especially all of the Wisconsin teams.
Survivors include his sister, Sally Ann (Gerald) Seidel; niece, Tracy Seidel, all of Rio Verde, AZ; nephew, Todd (Renee) Seidel of Woodruff, WI; and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Louis Erl.
A military graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford. Honors will be provided by the Medford Area Military Honors Team.
Memorials in Lawrence’s honor may go to the Medford VFW Building Fund.
