John Edward Smozynski, 88, of Athens, died Friday, January 10, 2025 at VitaCare Assisted Living in Medford while under the care of St. Croix Hospice.
He was born May 16, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois to Edward and Lucille (Lewandowski) Smozynski. He graduated from Athens High School in 1954.
On September 24, 1960, he married Jean Kinzel. Together they had five children and later divorced.
John lived in Athens for most of his life where he farmed for many years. He then worked in maintenance at North Central Healthcare until his retirement.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing, reading, woodworking and cheering on all Wisconsin teams plus the Marquette Golden Eagles!
He is survived by his five children, Jacqueline (Dean) Kellner of Medford, Theresa (Christopher) Resch of Merrill, John (Sheila) Smozynski of DeForest, Anne (Jon) Gabler of Reston, VA, Edward Smozynski of Herndon, VA; grandchildren, Eric (Lexie) Gajewski, Justin (Angie) Gajewski, Jordan (Amanda) Gajewski, Daniel Gajewski, Erin Resch, Natasha Smozynski, John Smozynski, Gregory Smozynski, Vivian Smozynski; great-grandchildren, Kashton, Klayton, Lennon, Devin, Jade, Archer, Marshall, Kodiak and Bristol.
He was preceded in death by his parents; former wife, Jean; and granddaughters, Tabitha and Marisa Gajewski.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
