Gloria Joyce Becker

Gloria Joyce Becker, 91, of Stetsonville, died Wednesday, November 1, 2023 after a two week stay at Aspirus Care and Rehab in Medford.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Hemer-Pickerign Funeral Home in Medford with the Rev. Paul Woods officiating.  Interment will follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Medford.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.

Gloria was born October 2, 1932 in La Crosse to Cecil and Violet (Cole) Adams.  She graduated from La Crosse High School in 1950.

On May 5, 1951, Gloria married John Becker in La Crosse.  While first married, they resided in San Diego where John was stationed in the U.S. Navy.  John worked for the telephone company which moved them around the country, first to St. Paul, MN, then Viroqua, WI, then Valders, WI, then in 1973 to Medford, then to Alaska, and finally returning to the Medford area in 1995.

Over the years, Gloria worked for the Tecumseh Company, and while living in Medford owned and operated the Kountry Kobbler Shoe Store.  She enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, sewing, reading, cleaning, shopping, taking care of and spending time with her family, and walking her dogs.

She is survived by her six children, Brian (Valerie) Becker of Harlingen, TX, Glenn Becker of Fremont, NE, Christine (Bruce) Kraus of Medford, Jacquelyn (Wes) Schneider of Omaha, NE, Barbara (Gary) Kron of Holcombe, John Jr. (Amy) Becker of Waukesha; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ruth Oliver of Bangor, WI; and her dog Skoshie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John on July 17, 2001; siblings, Richard, Gerald and Bazil, in infancy; and a grandson, Troy Joshua Jensen.
