Gerald Meyer Obituary

Gerald T. “Buzz” Meyer, age 72, of Medford, died Saturday, September 20, 2025 while under the care of Hope Hospice.

Buzz was born February 9, 1953 in Medford to Edward “Scottie” and Lucille Meyer.  He attended Holy Rosary Catholic School and graduated from Medford Senior High School in 1971.  He graduated from UW-Stevens Point in 1975 with a degree in biology.

Buzz was adventurous and enjoyed outdoor activities in all seasons.  One of his greatest achievements was the many years he served as coordinator for the High Point chapter of the Ice Age Trail Alliance.  In addition to shuttling hundreds of hikers and their dogs over the past decades, he volunteered thousands of hours maintaining and building new segments of the trail.  He was an avid supporter and encouraged everybody to “get Buzzed” on the Ice Age Trail.  In 2019 he proudly accepted the Spirit Stick Award, one of the highest honors a volunteer can receive from the Ice Age Trail Alliance.

Buzz was always willing to help his family and friends in any way he could.  He was sensitive to the needs of the less fortunate and was a dedicated blood donor, having donated more than 50 gallons over the years.

Buzz was a man of faith who enjoyed serving as an usher at Saturday evening Masses at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.  For many years he was part of the team of guys who got up at the crack of dawn to grill chicken for Holy Rosary’s annual Fall Festival.

Buzz is survived by his brothers Donald and Richard of Medford, David (Xinliu) of Madison, and sister Ann of Medford.  He is further survived by his nephew Dr. Michael (Dr. Candace) and their daughter Addison of Evanston, IL, and nieces Sarah (Mitch) and their son Reece of Mount Horeb, and Dr. Laura of La Crosse.

He was preceded in death by his father (1989), mother (2013), sister Jean (2024), and many aunts and uncles.

A private service will be held for family with interment at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials in Buzz’s honor can be made to: Holy Rosary Catholic School, 215 S Washington Ave, Medford WI 54451; Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, 537 W Broadway Ave, Medford WI 54451; or, Ice Age Trail Alliance at PO Box 128, 2110 Main Street, Cross Plains WI 53528.
