Fern A. Dassow, 86, Medford went to be with her Lord and Savior, Monday, January 3, 2023, while under the care of Aspirus Hospice Services of Wausau.
Fern was born April 1, 1936 in Athens, Wisconsin. The daughter of Edward and Ellen (Kautzer) Valenta. She attended country schools and graduated from Medford High School in 1955. She married Marvin Dassow in 1957 and together they had six children, Cindy, Dawn, Vicki, Tamara, Terrance, and Jodi.
As a young teenager, she received Christ as her Savior and served many years in youth work, choir, AWANA, and many other activities at Goodrich Community Church.
She moved to Merrill in 1972 and worked six years at the Weinbrenner Shoe Company. Later, when she moved to Medford she worked 32 years for Weathershield where she retired.
Fern loved to be outdoors and enjoyed taking care of her flower garden and lawn. She also enjoyed the birds and other wildlife around her home. Fern was an avid NASCAR, college and professional football fan.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Ellen Valenta and the father of her children. She is survived by her sister Grace (Roger) Grebe, and children, Cindy (Tony) Inda, Dawn (Stuart) Mikul, Vicki Dassow, Tamara (David) Miga, Terrance (Yvonne) Dassow, and Jodi (Mark) Landry. She had 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Her service will be at First Baptist Church, Medford, Wisconsin on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Medford Evergreen Cemetery 2. Visitation will take place at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM.
