Eleanor Viola Peterson, 93, formerly of Bayport, MN, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2026 at The Waterford at Colby.
She was born on July 24, 1932, in Lindstrom, MN, to Gunnard and Mildred (Tell) Hultquist. Eleanor grew up in Lindstrom and graduated from Lindstrom High School. She married Loren Kaphing and together they raised three children in Mason, Michigan. After Loren’s death, the family moved to Bayport, MN. She married Kenneth Peterson and they enjoyed 30 plus years wintering in The Villages, Florida.
Family was the most important part of her life and she especially treasured time spent on trips with her siblings and loved ones. She enjoyed traveling, quilting, and golfing. Known affectionately as “Nana”, she will be remembered for her warmth, her creativity, and the love she shared so freely.
She is survived by her children, Rory Kaphing, Robin Schifsky; daughter-in-law Cathy Kaphing, sibling, Darlene (Gordon) Christensen; grandchildren, Joe (Jolene) Kaphing, Caitlin (CJ) Packard, Lauren (Phil) Henrichs, Tyler (Colleen) Schifsky, Hollis Kaphing, and Frank Kaphing; step-grandchildren, Logan, Lucas, and Maya; and great grandchildren, Peyton, Holt, Hannah, Gemma, and Hazel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Loren Kaphing, and her second husband Ken Peterson, her son Randal Kaphing son-in-law, Myles Schifsky, her siblings, Elaine, Irene, Leroy, John, and Marvin “Bud”, and her grandson, Anthony Kaphing.
Eleanor will be laid to rest at South Elim Lutheran Cemetery in Scandia, MN, by family.
