Edward Whitmore Obituary

Edward J. Whitmore, 77, of Medford, died Friday, February 24, 2023 at Rib Lake Health Services with his family at his side and while under the care of Hope Hospice.

He was born November 27, 1945 in Chicago, IL to Joseph and Mildred (Aubert) Whitmore.  He grew up in Chicago and Mundelein, IL where he graduated from high school.  He then attended college at UW-Whitewater, earning a degree in sociology.

Edward served in the U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed at Langley AFB, from August, 1967 until his honorable discharge in June, 1972.

He worked as a senior accountant for All State Insurance until his retirement.  He then went back to work at Lake Forest County Day School, retiring for a second time after 19 years.

On May 3, 1997, he married Loretta “Lori” McCarter.  They resided in Illinois until moving to Medford to be near family.  They enjoyed traveling and did so with their two dachshunds, Amber and Tara.  Edward wasn’t much of an animal lover before he met Lori, but they grew on him and soon ended up with Sasha, a shih tzu, and a stray cat, Midnight that also became their pet.

Edward introduced sailboat racing to Lori, a passion he had for many years.  The couple then raced many summers together on lakes such as Crystal Lake in IL and Lake Michigan, winning many trophies over the years.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Lori of Medford; two children, Stephanie Stoneberg and Steven Whitmore, both of IL; stepchildren, Sherri (Greg) Onks of FL, Robert Daigle of ME; a brother, Ralph Whitmore of Medford; grandchildren, Grant Stoneberg, Brock Ellis, Mason Whitmore, and Michaela Daigle; nieces and nephew, Therese “Tracy” Whitmore of Oshkosh, Julie (Terry) Phillips of Medford, and Joe (Peggy) Whitmore of Antioch, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

As per Edward’s wishes, no services will be held.
