Dorothy Marie (Thums) Obenhoffer

Dorothy M. Obenhoffer, 92, of Medford, died Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Aspirus Hospital in Medford.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 3, 2021 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford with Fr. Patrick McConnell officiating.  Burial will be held at a later date at Historic St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery in the town of Greenwood.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Friday morning at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Dorothy was born November 21, 1929 in the town of Greenwood to Carl and Lillian (Wenzel) Thums.  She graduated from Rib Lake High School, class of 1947.

On June 19, 1948, Dorothy married Claire F. Obenhoffer at St. Ann’s Catholic Church.  Together, they had three children, Kathleen, Donald and Joseph.  She played the organ at St. Ann’s and, also played the organ and sang for weddings and funerals.  She worked in the laundry of Memorial Hospital (now Aspirus), and later became supervisor.  Dorothy also worked at her daughter-in-law, Judy’s Treasure Chest Gift Shop for many years.

Dorothy’s hands were never idle.  She crocheted, did custom knitting, baked, and her greatest passion was making greeting cards.  As a volunteer with Aspirus, she helped nursing home residents make cards monthly.

She is survived by three children, Kathy (Walt) Burcaw of Elk Mound, Don (Vicky) Obenhoffer of Medford, Joe (Judy) Obenhoffer of Rib Lake; grandchildren, Ryan (Cassie) Burcaw of Elk Mound, Paul (Becky) Burcaw of Eau Claire, Lance Obenhoffer of Wisconsin Rapids, Kim Obenhoffer of Medford, Nathan (Tiffany) Obenhoffer of Blaine, MN, Dustin (Amanda) Obenhoffer of Eau Claire; great-grandchildren, Luca, Payton, Brooks, Bronson, Sierra, Emy, Gavin, Liam, Adelynn, August, and Flynn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Claire in 2015.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
