Dean R. Purdy, 97, of Medford, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024 at his home, surrounded by family, under the care of Hope Hospice.
No services will be held at his request and a celebration of life will take place at a later date.
Dean was born to Edgar and Ruth (Reid) Purdy on March 23, 1927 in Medford; he was one of nine children. He attended Medford area schools. He served in the Navy from 1945-1946. He married Cheryl Stevenson on June 15, 1974 and was the father to 4 children. He worked at Weather Shield until his retirement.
Dean was an avid bowler, golfer, fisherman, and hunter. He enjoyed being outside and doing yardwork. He was an avid Brewers and Packers fan. Dean was very sociable and was known to enjoy a gimlet or two.
Dean is survived by his wife, Cheryl; children, Douglas (Theresa) Purdy of Wausau, Karen Wilm of Hayward, Craig Wilm of Menomonie, and Alycia (Daniel) Skomsvold of Medford; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Dean is further survived by his siblings, Jeanette (Jim) Koppa of Spokane, WA and Nancy Martinez and Lynn Young, both of Madison, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Ruth; siblings, Dick (Marie) Purdy, Geraldine (Mickey) Reiter, Virginia (Ken) Ertl, Marilyn (Lee) Hosking, and Lee (Kathy) Purdy.
Dean was known for his quirky sense of humor and always enjoyed making people laugh, so we as his family, would like to share some of his humorous advice with you all. "What the hell, eat the dessert cause skinny people die too." Dean Purdy/Dad
