Obituary

Clara Dora (Dorothy) Hackbart (100) passed on August 8, 2023 in Appleton where she was living close to her family. Clara was a longtime Medford resident, teacher and community member. She lived an active, vigorous life and recently celebrated her 100th birthday.

A celebration of her life will be held at Hemer-Pickerign Funeral Home in Medford on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 11 AM with visitation from 9 AM – 11 AM.

She was born Clara Dora Walther on May 24, 1923 to Dora and Paul at their farm, in the town of Molitor, near Sacketts Lake.

She is survived by three children: Janice (Biagio) Conti of New York, Robert (Tammy) Hackbart of Appleton, James Hackbart of Madison and granddaughter Katie Hackbart Earl (Colin) of Orlando Florida.

Clara had two beloved sisters: Irma E. Bomgardner who passed in 2004 and Margaret (Maggie) B. Gebert who passed in 2014.

After growing up in Medford, she worked in Chadron, Nebraska for the war department during WWII. Then she returned to Medford where she married her high school sweetheart, Eldon Hackbart, on May 24, 1947. She loved Eldon very much and enjoyed dancing and traveling with him before he passed in 1997.

She enjoyed exploring the natural world and became a science teacher, a much beloved and respected teacher in Medford's School System for 40 years.

She loved painting with oils, gardening, walking her dogs, playing cards, doing cross-word puzzles and traveling to different parts of the country, especially in her retirement. She was innovative, resilient, strong, playful, creative, always with a sense of humor and incredibly kind.

We would like to express our thanks to the wonderful staff at Dimensions Assisted Living Appleton for their loving care of our mother.

We will miss her dearly. ~ Clara's Family
